On recently on Digial Point, a post was made about the search engines being no more then huge online traffic monopolies. When you sit back and think about it, one could easily say that they do have a monopoly on the overall internet traffic picture. Yes there are other means of advertising on the internet without using the search engines. Some of those methods are:
- Link/Banner ads on other websites
- Directories
- Ebay/Craigs List
- Article writing & article submissions
- Blogging and guest blogging
- Forum Postings
- Email marketing
- Write for other people’s newsletters
Now I understand that some of these methods do not bring hardly any traffic at all, in all seriousness how many of you look in directories for products or services? Yea I thought so, you go to a search engine. That brings to me to my answer really, yes the search engines are an online traffic monopoly. Just about everyone knows how to search on them, the results are fast and in most cases are what the viewer was looking for. In today’s day and age people want there answer and they want it now. The faster they can get it, the happier they are. That is why a lot of people turn to the search engines when looking for things, they are the champions of generating traffic on the internet.
